Things went well this week at King’s Christian School. The theme for the week was “The Presence of Jesus” and I spent the week exploring how the presence of Jesus on the planet makes a difference in our lives. Ultimately I talked about how His presence in our lives is what really counts and how He wants to use us in the world to make a difference for His Kingdom.
Trevor and I shared many songs with the elementary age kids and then they would dismiss and the older students would stay for a devotion. Our focus verse was Philippians 2:5-11. I also spoke from 1 John3:1 and Romans 5:8.
The week ended with about 6 making decisions to follow Christ for salvation and about 50 standing to dedicate themselves to God for this year! It was a great move of the Lord on student’s hearts and we were so blessed to have been part of God’s working in lives! Please continue to pray for the students and staff at Kings Christian School.
Last night we attended a bonfire hosted by Kendall Presbyterian Church. It’s become an annual event for them to gather and burn off their dead Christmas trees. Fortunately, the weather was cool and so the added warmth was very nice! This week we all were surprised by the cold weather! So we were happy to have a cooler night for such an event.
Kids gathered to roast marshmallows and drink hot chocolate. Trees were burned and ashes floated in the chilled air. After a couple of hours of mingling and some serious tetherball, we had a brief devotion. Mike asked me to speak and so I share about being on fire for God, of course. I used the passage from 2 Timothy 1:6 where Paul admonishes Timothy
“… to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
I challenged everyone to make an effort to not burn “out” quickly but to stay close to others who are on fire and to make sure to add fuel to the fire. It’s so easy when we get isolated to find our fire dying out.
This week I was also able to catch up with one of our kids from George Camp. I met Bryan last summer at our George Camp location at Wayside Baptist. We became friends and even hung out for his birthday last summer. I had hoped to connect with him, especially since I had not seen him since the summer. Furthermore, I had Trevor with me, whom Bryan had also met last summer.
We were able to connect on Thursday night and have some pizza together. We enjoyed playing some Wii and then watching an awful SYFY channel movie called Lake Placid 2…IT WAS HORRIBLE! But we all had a great time and that’s what matters!
We also met with the Miami Wayside WAVE Team and help them kick-off their new season. It was wonderful being there and as always seeing our team working and serving together! Kathi is doing a great job leading everyone and the team looks cohesive and ready for 2012! They have a Relay For Life event they are preparing for so they lots to do over the next 6 weeks but they are well on their way to making a significant impact for the Kingdom that night!
This has been a great week and God has done some amazing things. I am grateful for all that we were able to share in. Thank you for your prayers and support of V2H and the work God has allowed me to do. Please continue to pray as I travel back to Atlanta late tonight and then to Chattanooga on Sunday night.
