Church Competition?

Church Competition?

Churches should never allow the mindset of competition. Christ is not divided and competition always divides. When we enter into a competitive mode and mindset it reduces our efforts to a human level and removes Christ and His glory from the equation. Anything we do must be done for the glory of God, not simply for the growth of our church. “Our” church is really Christ’s Church, right? The Church grows according to Christ…He is the One who gives the increase. 1 Corinthians 3:6

With this understanding, all members of the local body should be able to assist, encourage and build each other up instead of tearing one another down. Church growth should never be about size alone. Depth, integrity, and spiritual maturity should be just a few of the benchmark traits of “growing” churches. Numbers in attendance aside, how many people in our churches are sincerely committed disciples of Christ? How many churches are deeply committed to seeking the lost? How many are truly loving their communities? Instead, we are loving the competition of size and numbers, seeking to outdo, out-program, or out grow our buildings.

If Christ is the Head of our churches, no matter the size, the vision is correct. People matter. God’s glory matters. It’s not about the competition of who gets more or does more. What it’s all about is bringing God glory through faithful obedience. Making disciples is done one person at a time, one day at a time in the spirit of love, not competition. We must all learn to work together hand in hand, church to church and realize that it is only Christ who brings many sons to glory. Hebrews 2:10
