The Effective Pray-er

There is no doubt in my mind that God desires for everything to be done for His glory and His Kingdom. The effective pray-er is the one who proceeds to the throne of God to hear God speak of God’s plan, God’s glory and God’s agenda. The effective pray-er is the one who is changed by his time in prayer. I am ashamed to say that my prayer life is not often this way.

The effective pray-er is the one who continually seeks God’s glory and kingdom throughout the day. To think that prayer is meant to be anything other than life-giving is to not realize what those words truly mean. In honest, real prayer, it is the giving up of one’s life. It is the rejection of all the glory, self-seeking, self-gratifying agendas we have for the embracing of all that God is.

For many of us, we have reduced prayer to a simple 4 step plan or a memorized poem. There’s nothing wrong with using a step plan in prayer or a poem as a prayer but there’s  much, much more to prayer than that. Real, sincere prayer is about the pray-er being changed. We are changed from glory to glory. We become the very answer oftentimes to the prayers we offer! The issues we wrestle with in prayer really aren’t about others as much as about ourselves. Allowing prayers to remain poems and “steps” never takes us to the heart of what prayer is about and that is sincere worship of God.

The effective pray-er is the one who can come to God but not leave the same. The effective pray-er is the one who can leave everything with God and be blessed by being empty. The effective pray-er is the one who can worship God without needing answers, demanding rights or soliciting favor from God.

The scripture tells us that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. The prayer must come from a true pray-er. A true pray-er is one who worships God by seeking God’s glory and God’s kingdom. God delights in answering prayer and in giving Himself to the pray-er as the pray-er gives themselves to God in worship through prayer. God will begin answering more prayers as the pray-ers give themselves more to God.
